I just watched Some Like it Hot with my 14-year-old who asked "Is Daphne trans?" — so I googled it, and your piece came up. Having just watched the film, it's really intriguing: how Daphne's eyes shone when she danced with Osgood, and how excited she was when he proposed! She even forgot to take off her high heels at the end (that's how they get discovered).

In a sense, I think Osgood/Daphne is a much more enticing couple, based on love, acceptance, whereas Sugar/Joe seems to me a doomed relationship.
